RE: OFT rules out outdoor review, despite competition concerns
"The consultation received responses from five parties"..... \(but only) two "individual respondents with experience in the sector". No one else. Not one media owner other than the bizarre endorsement of CBS .None of the attendees at the Outdoor Media Centre's recent members conference. Where we all had the pleasure of listening to a speaker from one of the big processing factories tell us how we needed to be innovative to get the corn. We knew that was bollocks but when given the opportunity to challenge that patronising bullshit no one raised a murmur . And so we have the market ,and market structures, that we deserve. And this despite " ISBA \(saying) it had concerns that the relatively high margins at outdoor specialists suggested that the specialist buyers retain rebates, rather than pass through to advertisers as suggested in the OFT's provisional report". What odds on another casualty to follow Titan?
RE: JCDecaux wins East Coast outdoor ad contract
Not everything is as black and white as it may seem. Some contracts are not as valuable to some media owners as they are to others. You have to remember with JCD's acquisition of Titan, they already have a rail network, so the East Coast Network is an easy fit. At the end of the day, scale doesn't guarantee you good returns and neither does every franchise you buy.
RE: Clear Channel reaps annual revenue growth
OBIDAN???? I thought he was Luke Skywalker's mentor. Platform for growth? No... that was the plucking from administration of Titan by JC Decaux last year .You boys are nowhere & the gulf will widen very considerably ,very swiftly. Why is it that Decaux never feel the need to recruit agency journeymen\(& women) or junior marketeers to run their out of home business?Perhaps because they're mostly already working at Clear Channel?
RE: Facebook tipped to launch webmail service
Facebook's 'Titan' could be a real game changer - there is no denying that. I have written about some of the great things we could expect from 'Titan', including a more social inbox - but also written about the 'cons' such as spam concerns stemming from facebook profile names and more. http://jyml.me/9tqyny Hope you enjoy, Jay

RE: Network Rail kicks off £100m review
So JC Decaux paid £8m for the business & assets of Titan Outdoor Advertising Ltd on 18th January that didn't include its main asset-the "£100m railside advertising contract"-which is put back out for tender by its owner Network Rail .So presumably if JC Decaux wish to retain Titan's key asset they have to pay again & presumably out bid the market for the rail contract? On top of the £8m they've already shelled out? We're constantly reading in the business press & elsewhere about how Decaux have exercised caution & prudence whilst fools rushed in and over bid for contracts & assets-Titan's acquisition of Maiden in 2006 being held up as a prime example .But from where I'm standing this seems to be an awful lot of cash for not very much –a couple of branch line contracts alongside Asda & Morrison supermarkets & the shopping mall concessions where the margins for the media owner tend to be wafer thin \(And no, in case your wondering ,I'm not an outdoor expert, I simply consulted the Titan outdoor website which is still proclaiming itself as the UK's No1 in Rail...come on Decaux get a grip!!). What price the rail contract going to a new bidder altogether.?I see BSkyB have a spare £194m after selling 10% of ITV.Isn't the future of this rail stuff supposed to be digital screens?
