He will report to Tony Kypreos, the ex-international vice-president of T-Mobile, who joined the German publisher in October as group managing director of digital.
Wright will be responsible for the publisher's digital brand extensions, which include FHM, Heat and Empire, with a brief to further monetise content and services.
He left Sky Digital Media in July following the appointment of Giles Ivey, the former digital commercial director at Times Media, who took on some of Wright's responsibilities in a restructure.
Wright originally joined Sky in 1998 as one of the first members of its sales team before leaving in 1999 to become director of sales at Sports.com.
He went on to co-found online sales agency Aura Sports in September 2002, which was sold to Sky in 2006.
Bauer Media's digital operations have been overhauled since the German publisher acquired the Emap consumer and radio division at the end of 2007.
Key digital personnel including Dharmash Mistry, managing director of Bauer Consumer Media and Bauer Performance, and digital sales director Bruce Daisley subsequently left the organisation.
