Hachette's women's monthly title Red scooped the prize for Consumer Magazine of the Year, picking up the award at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Mayfair's Park Lane.

Over 1,000 guests attended the event and watched the presentation of 22 awards.

Barry Mcllheney, PPA chief executive, said: "Congratulations to all the winners of this year's PPA Awards, who can be proud of being singled out among a very strong field for their innovation and commitment to excellence.

Winkler spoke to the audience about his struggle with dyslexia to highlight the importance of promoting literacy among children.

Red sister title Elle Decoration won Specialist Consumer Magazine of the Year.

Times Higher Education – the weekly higher-education title – scooped two of the biggest awards, Business Magazine of the Year and Weekly Business Magazine of the Year.

International Consumer Magazine of the year went to monthly title Time Out, beating Haymarket Consumer Media's FourFourTwo.

The other big magazine brand winners included Natmag's Cosmopolitan as Consumer Media Brand of the Year and Haymarket's Windpower Monthly, which scooped Monthly Business Magazine of the Year.

Helen Edwards, Marketing's regular commentator on brand strategy, was also named business media columnist of the year at the awards.

Edwards, whose marketing consultancy Passionbrand works for some of the world's biggest brands, joined Marketing’s line-up of columnists in April 2010.

IPC Media and Bauer Media, two of the biggest magazine publishers, failed to win any awards, despite a number of nominations.
