So is it all smoke and mirrors or has the legendary silver-tongued TV operator himself genuinely started to turn around the fortunes of ITV? Michael Grade was in businesslike but confident form when I interviewed him for Media Week TV last Tuesday (page 22), fresh from launching his five-year strategic plan to the City and media community and basking in the small moral victory of persuading Ofcom to have a look at the contract rights renewal mechanism.
