Broadband take-up among UK adults reaches 70%

More than two out of three UK adults (70%) have an internet connection at home, according to new Ofcom research. Despite revealing such large take-up, Ofcom also looked at why take-up is not yet universal or near-universal. A significant 37% of 55 to 64-year-olds, for example, do not intend gaining web access in the next 12 months.

Close to one in five (18%) of all respondents said they were likely to get the internet in the next six months.

Ofcom found this group was more likely to be relatively younger, with 68% under 44 years old. And, compared with the overall sample, they were more likely to be working (53%), have children living in their household (39%) and have an annual household income of more than £17,500 (22%).

Just over four out of 10 respondents said they are not interested in having the internet at home.
