Trout, who left H Bauer in July, will become the new chief executive of the site called smarta.com, which will form part of a portfolio of titles growing out of the $100m venture capital firm, run by Dan Wagner and Shaa Wasmund.
The site, which will be free of charge to users, will make money through advertising and sponsorship.
Bright Station Ventures, set up in 2007, runs the social networking site horsesmouth and shopping and social networking site Osoyou.com, as well as outsourcing e-commerce technologies such as Venda to third parties, which it claims will help businesses increase online sales.
Osoyou.com launched last summer, run by another former Emap executive, Dawn Bebe.
The B2B site will launch in January. Trout left H Bauer as part of a cost-cutting restructure that resulted in his job becoming redundant.
