My career turning point was...
...in 1999, when I had been working in outdoor for about six years. Before that I worked in TV, but back then it had a myopic view of the advertising world, so outdoor was a breath of fresh air because marketing was central to the business.
In 1999, the ground shook when the company I worked for, Mills & Allen, was bought by JCDecaux, which had a huge reputation for its products but not for marketing. Jean-Francois Decaux was absolutely involved in the business - he was passionate and had a commitment to product investment, research and development - and he kept me on as marketing director.
Not marketing to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, as in the past, but as part of a serious plan to change the industry. It's been a great journey and I have loved every minute.
