Insiders' Guide: KidsCo

KidsCo is an international children's pay-TV channel, backed by NBC Universal. We plan to be in 80 markets worldwide by 2011, and we hope to launch as a pay-TV channel in the UK in the first half of 2010.

Who is the team leader?
Our managing director is Paul Robinson, who founded the channel in August 2005. Although Paul is always on the go, he is still involved in all aspects of our business and is never far away from his BlackBerry.

What's in your in-tray?
We are developing our digital business and preparing for Mipcom - the global media event where media owners, financiers, distributors and producers go to buy and sell new content - where we will acquire new programmes.

Where do you get inspiration?

The team's collective experience, gained from working at the BBC, Disney, Nickelodeon, Entertainment Rights, Discovery, Sparrowhawk Media and Fremantle, has given us extensive knowledge of children's television. However, our inspiration also comes from our enjoyment of children's programming.

Media you can't live without
Television and video-on-demand: we wouldn't be in the business if we didn't love it. Professionally, we value publications such as Kidscreen, Animation Magazine and C21 Kids to keep us up to date on the international children's TV market.

Preferred lunching venues
While The Ivy Club is nice, we also enjoy the surroundings at The Rainforest Café in London's West End. The restaurant is fun for children and adults, while teaching us a thing or two about the rainforests.

Most memorable night out
Our second birthday party earlier this month. True to form, we celebrated with cake, hats, balloons and streamers - we are all kids at heart.

Advice to graduates
Break the interview mould by turning a job interview into a conversation. Let your personality shine, be open and honest, and be an active listener.

If we ruled the world...

We would all pay more attention to our kids' education. There would be more public funding for quality kids' entertainment, and TV, internet sites and computer games produced for children would stay away from violence and stereotype.
