On Tuesday, Trinity Mirror confirmed the papers were to be the subject of a radical overhaul, with job losses inevitable, as it opened a consultation process to look at turning the Mail into a morning paper, from an evening, and the Post from a business-focussed daily into a weekly publication.
ABC figures released today confirmed Trinity's titles are facing the same declining circulation pressures as many regional and national newspaper publishers.
The Birmingham Mail posted an average circulation of 56,495 for the six-month period to the end of June, a 14.6% drop on the figure of 66,166 for the same period last year.
The Birmingham Post recorded a daily net circulation figure of just 12,076 for the six months to the end of June, down 5.6% year on year.
A statement from Trinity on Tuesday, outlined the company's need to make wholesale changes to the flagship Midlands titles.
"It is clear that to safeguard the future of these businesses further action is required," it said.
