BR Video: Public blasts 'outdated' Big Brother

LONDON - As viewers continue to desert Channel 4's 'Big Brother', members of the public told Brand Republic that the ten-year-old format was outdated and past its sell-by date although they continue to watch other reality shows such as 'Shipwrecked' and 'Come Dine With Me' -- watch the video now.

The majority of those interviewed said they did not watch the reality programme anymore, although many confessed that they had watched it in previous years.

One woman said: "The first [series] was good because it had normal people in it but then it just got more and more stupid."

Another person said: "We used to love it but we just don't watch it anymore."

However, some of the people interviewed said that they did still like reality programmes, but favoured shows such as C4's 'Shipwrecked', ITV1's 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!', C4's 'Come Dine With Me' and Sky 1's 'Road Wars'.

One person told BR: "I still think Big Brother would be a good show if they would just go for a mix of normal, quite ordinary, interesting people. [But it's] almost like they think the wackier, the zanier, the more 'out there' the better."

This is the 10th series of the reality show, now on air for 48 days, and the lowest-rating for Channel 4. Last Friday night 'Big Brother' managed 2.7m viewers for an eviction special which dumped housemate Carly and introduced five new contestants.

Mike Parker, head of strategic sales at C4, said last week that although this year's show had attracted fewer viewers, 'Big Brother' continues to fuel young audiences across the C4 network.

Actually the people in it this year are fairly normal. I didn't watch it last year because I was so enraged at the Brian Belo celebrating complete thickbess debarkell. but this year I am actually pleasantly surprised, they're fairly 'normal' not zany at all, and dare I say quite intelligent \(compared to previous years). I think people have judged the programme without actually watching any of this series.
