Setanta wins rights to air high-profile motor racing events

 

LONDON - Sports broadcaster Setanta has secured the rights for four motor racing events including the FIA GT Championship, the GP2 series, the Superleague Formula and the DTM series.

Screening of the events begins this Sunday (3 May), with the FIA GT Championship at Silverstone, Northamptonshire, after which the race moves to Adria in Italy. The eight-round championship finishes in October, in Zolder, Germany.

Setanta will also show coverage of the championship regarded as the training ground for Formula 1, the GP2 Series, which starts on 9 May. Former GP2 champions include Lewis Hamilton, Nelson Piquet and Timo Glock.

Superleague Formula combines football and Formula 1, with 18 cars each carrying the livery of a major European club over the weekend of 27 and 28 June in Magny-Cours, France.

Last year, teams to compete included Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund.

The fourth motor racing package Setanta has secured is rights to air is the German Touring Car Masters, DTM, which begins on 17 May in Duusseldorf, where Mercedes and Audi teams will go head to head.
