Sandell, who had responsibility for Maxim, Men's Fitness, Viz, Bizarre and the digital offshoots, joined the company in 2003 after it acquired I Feel Good, the publisher of men's magazine Jack.

Sandell, who was commercial director at IFG, was also responsible for gambling titles Inside Edge, Poker Player and Total Gambler.

Simon Clark, publishing director of Maxim, Bizarre and Men's Fitness, has taken on Sandell's duties, although, unlike Sandell, he will not have a position on Dennis' executive board.

Sandell became managing director of Dennis' consumer magazines in March 2006.

Dennis confirmed the departure, but declined to comment further.
