The 11-strong sales team will be jointly responsible for the Disney Channel and Jetix ad sales. It will be headed by Michael Ghosh, director of ad sales, Jetix UK.
The formation of the commercial team marks an upswing in Disney Channel's commercial activity. Disney Channel does not carry spot TV ads and there are no plans to change this.
The new sales team will maximize the commercial value of Disney's kids entertainment portfolio by, for example, striking Disney Channel programme sponsorship deals around shows such as Hannah Montana. It will also look to cut sponsorship deals on Disney Channel original movies such as High School Musical.
Meanwhile, clients will be offered the chance to sponsor Disney Channel's short-form programmes, such as Lipe Bites. The team will roll out ideas to agencies and clients from this week. Ghosh said: "We are focusing on the Disney Channel, as opposed to Cinemagic or Playhouse, and making sure we leverage Disney.co.uk with much greater effect."
