McVitie, who has been with the company for 10 years, joined the Daily Sport as a feature writer before switching to news. Gary Doran succeeds her as deputy editor at the Manchester-based operation.
The new line-up at the Sport's daily title comes two months after Murray Morse was appointed editor-in-chief of the Daily Sport and Sunday Sport.
Morse, former editor of the Cambridge Evening News, replaced Barry McIlheney, who left his role as editor-in-chief of the Daily and Sunday Sport to become group editorial director of owner Sport Media Group.
In June, the group issued a warning to the City that its full-year results would be lower than market expectations, warning that the relaunch of its flagship title had been disappointing.
In May, the group bought Flip Media, the publisher of lads' magazine Front and DVD World, for £265,000.
