Weed killer brand teams up with Aardman

LONDON - Comedian Paul Whitehouse lends his voice to the talents of Aardman, the award-winning animators behind Wallace and Gromit, for a new campaign for weed killer brand Resolva 24H.

The centrepiece of the campaign created by TBWA\Manchester is a 30-second TV ad showing how Resolva 24H can rid gardens of weeds for good. It features the strapline "Resolva your weed problem".

The ad opens with a proud gardener, shown strolling around his garden with a proud smile on his face, admiring how bountiful and well-kept it is.

Suddenly, one cheeky animated weed pops up between the paving stones. As the gardener darts to pull it out, its partners in crime begin popping up all over the garden.

Stephan Majoram, a director at Aardman Animations, said: "I was quite taken by the script, which painted the weeds as really cheeky, annoying pests. I could see there was a lot of room for humour and a chance to make the weeds into real characters that the audience would love to hate.

"It's always nice to get a chance of doing some baddies. It's just a shame they all have to die in the end."

Keith Nicholson, head of marketing for Resolva 24H maker Westland Horticulture, said: "Our partnership with TBWA\Manchester and Aardman has enabled us to produce an advert that empathises with gardeners' day-to-day worse nightmares while revealing, in just a 30-second ad, how this will never be an issue for them again."
