Clements, who starts at STV on 15 September, will be responsible for all network and regional television programme output at the broadcaster.
He was expected to take up his post in December, but was unable to do so after losing a court battle last year with RDF Media, who alleged that Clements had contravened a “non-compete” clause by announcing his move to STV parent SMG, just 16 months after RDF bought his company IWC.
As part of the deal to sell IWC to RDF, Clements agreed not to work for any rival companies for three years in exchange for almost £2m in cash and shares.
Clements claimed that he had been constructively dismissed by RDF, and could therefore move to SMG when he wanted. However, he lost the case and was forced to delay his move to STV by three months.
The two parties have now agreed on a settlement, ahead of Clements’ forthcoming appeal against the December court ruling and this has allowed him to join SMG before the end of the “non-compete” clause.

LONDON - Former RDF Media executive Alan Clements is to join STV, one of the two ITV franchises in Scotland, as its director of content, after settling a dispute with his former employer.
