Available from September, the initial 50 sites - to be launched across the UK with more rolled out over time - will be powered by sun and wind, requiring no electricity.
The eco-friendly sites will replace existing sites including shopping parks such as the Metro Centre in Gateshead, New Mersey Shopping Park in Liverpool, Fort Kinnaird in Edinburgh and Enfield Retail Park, as well as roadsides in Liverpool, Redbridge and Middlesbrough.
The lampposts are powered by the sun and wind, creating "environmentally friendly" illumination. The solar panel and wind turbine both charge the battery, which then has enough power to illuminate through the night and early morning.
Existing flourescent bulbs are also being replaced by LED technology, which requires less energy to run. The panels and columns of the six-sheets will be painted green to advertise the environmental credentials of each site that go live on 1 September.
Streetbroadcast is keen to extol the benefits of the sites to a range of advertisers such as fuel companies that are promoting energy-efficient cars and environmentally conscious organisations.
