Channel 4 announces radio plans

Channel 4 has launched into the radio market with a range of audio programmes and a planned online radio station.

Programmes available include radio extensions of Channel 4 television shows such as Channel 4 News, Richard & Judy, Lost and Big Brother.
More commissions across music, comedy and news and current affairs are planned for later in the year, including collaborative work with Channel 4’s Dispatches.
It is also seeking a sponsor for a website, www.channel4radio.com, on which registered users can listen to streamed content or download audio files, as well as individual programming strands.
In the first appointment to its editorial development committee, former Radio 2 Controller Jim Moir joins in a consultancy capacity.
Nathalie Schwarz, director of radio at Channel 4, said the broadcaster aimed to secure digital radio licences and launch 4-branded radio stations.
