According to reports from the Financial Times and the Daily Telegraph, the search engine named Orion is being developed at the University of New South Wales in Australia by 26-year-old student Ori Allon, who is understood to be working at Google's headquarters in Silicon Valley to expand the algorithm further.
Orion finds pages where the content is about a topic strongly related to the keyword. It then extracts a section of the page, and lists other topics related to the keyword so the user can pick the most relevant.
The results of the query are displayed immediately in the form of expanded text extracts, giving the searcher the relevant information without having to go to the website -- although there is still that option.
When he started creating the engine, Allon said it would improve "the speed and focus of internet searches, which is, as we all know, an invaluable service".
The university will retain ownership of Orion because it was developed within the university's PhD programme. However, the acquisition, which could potentially be worth millions, has not been officially announced by Google nor the university.
