Ideal Home strengthens its market-leading position

LONDON - Ideal Home, the IPC Media market leader, was among a number of magazines in the home and gardens sector that managed to buck the falling circulation trend, but some sector stalwarts were less lucky, recording significant decreases.

Ideal Home saw its circulation rise by 6.6% for the year to 244,870, a period-on-period fall of 4.5% from 256,505.

It is still nearly 50,000 copies ahead of its nearest rival, the National Magazine Company's House Beautiful, which reported a circulation of 192,409, down 3.8% for the year.

Two BBC magazines took significant dives in this sector. BBC Homes and Antiques, the third-biggest title, was down 3.8% for the year at 165,388, while BBC Homes slumped 8.9% year on year, down to 121,312. Also down was House & Gardens, which lost 10.6% of its circulation year on year, to fall from over 160,000 to 141,809.

NatMags had the sector's biggest gainer, with Your Home up 11.6% for the year with a circulation of 152,557. Among the other big fallers were IPC's Living Etc, launched with a bang in the 1990s, down 4.3% to 81,381.
