Previously head of emerging platforms, Newton will take on his new role with immediate effect and report to Ian James, chief digital officer for dynamic markets at the agency.

The Publicis-owned agency said that this new group would, "work to bring more creativity, broader non-traditional and future-facing ideas with the agency's core partners across all digital platforms." Newton will work across all Starcom and MediaVest clients in the UK.

Newton was previously head of emerging platforms at digital specialist i-level. Prior to that, he was a digital planner and strategist at Unique Digital.

In addition to his strategic partnership role, he will also front the agency's mobile offering to clients, taking over from Milton Elias, who is leaving the agency.

Newton said: "Bringing mobile into the strategic partnerships role makes perfect sense, as mobile is fast becoming an imperative element for all channels. We are experiencing a phenomenally exciting time in media at the moment where the future really is being written in front of us.

"As digital, social, and now mobile monikers are being dropped for just 'media', the opportunities being created to connect and bring experiences to the fore are wonderfully exciting".

James said: "As partnerships with key global technology platforms become the bedrock for captivating human experiences, Oliver is the perfect point man, blending a deep understanding of the role of technology in consumers' lives with an acute business savvy, to help clients and brands maximise the opportunity."
