Men & Movies will show action, documentaries, horror, sci-fi, war and westerns, all primarily aimed at men, exclusively on the Freesat platform from today.

Last week Dolphin Television introduced time-shifted +1 versions of the channels Movies4Men and Movies4Men2 on the Freesat platform.

Mark Briggs, head of channels of Freesat, said: "Men & Movies further strengthens our entertainment genre on offer as we continue to bring greater subscription-free choice to audiences right across the UK."

David Goffin, managing director of Dolphin Television, said: "We know our film channels are already very popular and we hope this eclectic mix of male-biased entertainment will further enhance their viewing."

Men & Movies will automatically be added to viewers’ Freesat service via their TVs or digital boxes, so viewers can get their slice of the action straight away without having to manually re-tune.

It costs £36,000 to be listed on the Freesat EPG. According to figures from Ofcom, Freesat had reached 1.25m sales by quarter two 2010 and is expected to reach 1.5m during the third quarter 2010.

On Saturday Freesat launched its first TV ad since appointing VCCP to its £5m account. The ad uses the strapline "Subscription-free satellite TV. There is no catch" and is part of a new brand strategy.
