News International's thelondonpaper
News International set up NI Free Newspapers on 1 July 2006, the subsidiary that launched thelondonpaper, its free evening newspaper, on 4 September that year.

On 20 August News International announced it had entered a 30-day consultation on the proposed closure of thelondonpaper with approximately 60 staff of NI Free Newspapers.
The paper remained loss-making in its second year of operation, although the loss narrowed markedly from the previous year. According to accounts for the year to 30 June 2008, NI Free Newspapers posted a £12.96m loss.
Thelondonpaper competed with Associated's London Lite in the free market, as well as the paid-for title London Evening Standard, recently revamped under new owner Alexander Lebedev.
