Orange predicts record Christmas for texting

LONDON - Mobile phone outfit Orange is expecting a record for text and picture messages this Christmas, with more than a million picture messages forecast to be sent on the big day itself.

Last Christmas, the company experienced a record year for texts and picture messages, with more than 100 million text messages and upwards of one million picture messages sent on December 25.

This year, it is expecting the number of picture messages sent to rise to about 1.1 million.

New Year's Eve is also expected to break all mobile communications records, with more than 120 million text messages predicted to be sent. New Year's Eve 2009 saw 106 million text messages and almost a million picture messages sent.

Last month, Orange became the first mobile network to land a deal with Twitter. Orange users are now able to upload pictures to the social networking site via text messages.
