The channel, which is just over a year old, unveiled The Bransons: Come Hell or High Water, Britain's Worst Learner, The North Sea, My Holiday Hostage Hell, and Sun, Sea and A&E, as the new shows in its line-up.

The Life and Times of Tim also joins the schedule from American network HBO.

The newly announced shows add to a roster that includes Gethin Jones' Danger Hunters and the celebrity-led, The Prisoner.

The schedule announcement comes as the TV advertising trading season begins, with Virgin 1's ad sales being handled by IDS.

Daniela Neumann, Virgin 1 director of programming, said the channel was establishing itself "as a major player in a sea of channels".
