Daily Mail & General Trust buys Primelocation for £48m
Daily Mail & General Trust plc (DMGT) has bought property website Primelocation for £48m, as media owners continue to spend on online services. The portal, which focuses on the upper and middle segments of the UK residential property market, was set up by 50 leading estate agents in January 2001.
Racing Post and Racing UK launch broadband betting
Trinity Mirror's The Racing Post and TV channel Racing UK have launched a broadband betting site which will allow fans to watch more than 4,000 races a year via broadband internet or 3G. Www.thebettingsite.co.uk, which is backed by five leading bookmakers, is being paraded as the UK's only "'one stop" on-line betting site and will include live coverage from major events including the Grand National, Cheltenham Gold Cup and the Epsom Derby, accessed via subscription.
Advertising Association reports ad expenditure fall
Advertising expenditure fell by 2.3% year on year, including inflation, in the third quarter of 2005, according to the latest figures from the Advertising Association. The figures reveal a near-50% increase, also including inflation, in the internet sector, with regional papers worst hit, down by more than 9% year on year.
Xfm Scotland appoints MediaCom as buying agency
Beat 106, which has repositioned to Xfm Scotland, has appointed MediaCom (Scotland) as its media buying agency in the run up to the station's launch on 4 January. Xfm Scotland's marketing and operations director, Stuart Duncan, said the appointment was based on the need to use a north-of-the-border agency with a real understanding of the station's market.
Publicis Blueprint wins De Vere Hotels mag contract
Customer publisher Publicis Blueprint has won the contract to publish a magazine for De Vere Hotels, the owner of The Belfry. In the same week it won additional work for printed matter for technology client Hewlett Packard.
City AM increases distribution to all London airports
City AM, the free newspaper aimed at the capital's business community, has extended its distribution deal to include all four London airports: Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and City, three months after its launch. Up to 5,000 copies will be available in branded units in more than 50 business lounges serving airlines including BA, Virgin and Air France.

MediaCom is taking over AOL's welcome page on 3 January, for its client NiQuitin, to publicise the stop-smoking lozenges and patches in a post-Christmas campaign to help people kick the habit.

VCMedia will handle online advertising for property website TheMoveChannel.com and Net Access, which owns a portfolio of internet service providers including Breath and MacUnlimited.
NBC Universal Global Networks appoints Claire Holland
NBC Universal Global Networks, the international television division of NBC Universal, has appointed Claire Holland as head of multi-local sales - Europe. A seven-year veteran of Eurosport TV, where she was most recently senior sales manager, Holland will work across NBC Universal Global Networks' portfolio of European entertainment channels in the UK, France, Italy, Germany and Spain.
