HSBC goes global

Global financial services company HSBC has begun a worldwide review of its £600m advertising, marketing and communications accounts to consolidate its accounts with one agency network.

Unusually, the heads of these networks, such as Sir Martin Sorrell of WPP (right), have been asked to present their company’s case.

One agency insider commented: “The whole pitch is unbelievable, not least because these advertising giants will be rubbing shoulders in reception at HSBC.

“Even their ‘junior’ pitch teams will comprise some of the biggest names in advertising.”

HSBC is considering agencies owned by four companies – the Interpublic Group of Companies, the Omnicom Group, the Publicis Groupe and the WPP Group.

A decision is expected by May.
