Team of the week

MediaCom’s regional team Accent have been told they resemble the inhabitants of a farmyard. Intrigued? Read on.

How many people in you team and who does what?

There are 10 of us, with Craig Lennon and Les Middleton heading the team. Dwight Thomas, Annette Lucky and Joanne Lincoln are media managers who head the account teams, which include clients like COI, Boots, Vue Cinema, Iceland, Kwik-Fit and Royal Bank Of Scotland. They are supported by Catherine Smith and Jacqui Frisby, the planner/buyers.

Who is the biggest character and why?

We have a complete mixed bag of personalities working in Accent, which one media owner recently likened to a scene from a farmyard. Following their analogy the main characters would range from the "old loyal shire horse" Les Middleton (over 30 years in regional media) to the "howling mad, hyena" Joanne Lincoln (known for her outbursts of song in the office). In the past, Craig Lennon and Dwight Thomas' notorious negotiation styles has been likened to that of a "pit bull terrier" and "Jack Russell" due to their forcefulness and tenacity!

What is the office atmosphere like?

Bright, fun, lively, busy.

What stands you apart from the rest of the industry?

We are quite simply the biggest and the best regional division among agencies, with more than 80 years' combined experience within the industry, and billings in excess of our two nearest competitors put together.

What does it take to get a job in your team?

It takes enthusiasm, hard work, knowledge, passion, motivation and a friendly/fun disposition.

Oh, and a good sense of geography comes in handy!

How are staff encouraged to hit targets?

We don't have targets so much as deadlines, but we are constantly encouraged to perform to the best of our ability.

Where do you let your hair down?

Most lunchtimes we can be found at the legendary "Purple Pub" (The Exmouth Arms).

Trips to this "real life London boozer" are designed to help any Northern members of our team acclimatise to life in the South. If we can drag Les away from his Stella, the team also enjoys the odd sake drinking game in the local Japanese bar, and trips to our favourite Spanish restaurant, Navarro's, for tapas
