Carlton Screen Advertising ran its first Imax cinema commercial this week. The Smirnoff ad launched on the new Imax package offered by Carlton Screen Advertising and will initially run across three 60ft-high Imax screens across the UK (Bradford, London, Manchester Filmworks) and then follow on a further three screens in 2004 (Bristol, Birmingham and Belfast).

Freeserve, working with three other European online media owners, has formed a pan-European advertising network giving access to 30 million unique users. The network comprises Freeserve, Wanadoo (France, Netherlands), Web.de (Germany) and Libero (Italy). Freeserve's Ad Sales Director, Dave McCall, said the new network had already booked clients including the Intercontinental Hotels group, Tour Espana, and VisitLondon.com.

Birmingham radio station 96.4 brmb has joined forces with West Midlands-based Worldcard reward scheme to launch a loyalty card. Listeners will be able to accrue points at bars, shops, cinemas, restaurants, pubs and clubs in the region in return for discounted food and drinks.

The Manchester Evening News has rewarded two senior managers with positions on its board of directors. Julie Tattersall, who has been head of newspaper sales since 1998, will take a directorship relating to her management position, while financial controller Howard Standen will become financial director.

The European Data & Research group will launch the followup to its International Air Travel Survey in June next year.

The International Media Exposure study, which will highlight the media habits of international travellers, is based on 2,000 interviews carried out at airports around Europe.

Bacardi has signed up for a two-month, six-figure campaign to run in all of Brightspace's venues in the weeks running up to Christmas.

Brightspace runs a network of in-venue digital screens across the UK. The deal was negotiated by Universal McCann and prevents Brightspace from showing any competitors' adverts during the eight-week period.

MXR claims to be setting up the UK's first dedicatedDAB digital radio website for customers wanting to buy the products online. The site, www.buydigitalradio.com, supported by live reads and airtime from MXR's analogue radio partners including Heart, Galaxy, Century, Real and Jazz FM, will offer a three-day delivery service and special offers.

Warner Howard Media, the washroom digital media network, has signed a deal with EasyJet to launch an advertising campaign in key central London venues. The advertisements, which will promote flight offers for the Christmas period, will appear on Warner Howard's customdesigned media screens installed in hand dryers.

The BBC switched on four new digital radio transmitters in the UK in November as part of its commitment to increase its digital radio coverage to 85% of the population by mid-2004. More than 1.2 million people in Sussex, Norfolk and Dorset have been brought into BBC national digital radio coverage for the first time following the switch-on of the new transmitters. The BBC's coverage now stands at more than 70% of the UK population.

Andrew Newman has rejoined Channel 4 as head of entertainment after a two-year stint at rival Five, where he commissioned a number of series including Swagand Monkey Magic. While at Channel 4, Newman was credited with series such as Da Ali G Show (pictured) and Banzai. Prior to joining Five, Newman worked with Channel 4's director of television, Kevin Lygo, and the two will be reunited following Newman's return to the broadcaster.
