MTV and the COI have teamed up for the first time for a two week TV
campaign to promote the Department for Education & Skills' Millennium Volunteers initiative. The deal, planned, bought and negotiated for the COI and DfES by MediaVest, will see two 60 second commercials created by D'Arcy run alongside a series of nine others produced by MTV.

AOL UK has promoted Morag McDonald to the position of chief finance officer. McDonald, who was previously finance director for the interactive services company, will have responsibility for all aspects of financial management for the company, including strategic financial planning. The announcement follows the appointment last week of Melinda J Mount as co-managing director.

The Telegraph Group is to review its creative account, after it announced it is to part company after more than eight years with J. Walter Thompson. The group said its media agency MindShare would not be hit by the review.

Manning Gottlieb Media is using the new format of mini flash movies to add impact to Alliance & Leicester's online campaign. The mini flash movies, which advertise Alliance & Leicester's site smartermotoring. com, appear on key automotive sites like Auto Express and Top Gear. The investment in this more dynamic format has proved very worthwhile, with click through rates of up to 34%.

Richard Branson has sold his 20% stake in John Brown Publishing to founder John Brown. Branson helped JBP get off the ground in 1987 and awarded it magazine publishing contracts including Virgin Trains title Hot Lines and Virgin Atlantic's Hot Air.

Scottish Media Group has appointed ad 2-one, the Vivendi-owned online solutions provider, to sell across its newly formed online division, s1. Ad 2-one will sell across The Herald, the Evening Times and Sunday Herald's sites and recruitment site s1jobs.

Vanni Treves, incumbent chairman of Channel 4, has been reappointed until the end of 2003. The news was announced by the Independent Television Commission and ratified by culture secretary Tessa Jowell. Treves has been chairman of Channel 4 since 1998.

ITV has taken over the rights to screen Miss World 2001 in the United Kingdom from Channel 5. The show will be divided into two programmes to include an interactive viewer voting element, and they will be by Endemol UK's production arm, Initial.
