Media Metrix to go global

Internet research company Media Metrix is preparing to dramatically expand the number of markets in which it operates over the next 12 months through a series of joint ventures.

Media Metrix President Mary Ann Packo said new operations in Brazil, Spain, Italy and Denmark, China, Mexico and Argentina will have been launched by early next year.

Media Metrix, which is a US, based firm, launched in the UK late last year and also measures internet activity in France, Germany, Japan and Australia. It competes directly with ACNielsen International owned NetRatings.

All the new operations will be majority owned by Media Metrix. The expansion builds off the company's new units in and several European markets.

Packo said that all the units would be majority owned by Media Metrix and that the expansion plan would mean the company covered around 90% of the world's internet users by next year.
