Carat is set to be appointed to handle the launch of Talkcast, the online media venture set up by former News International marketers Ellis Watson and Toby Constantine. It is understood to have won the account without a pitch.
Watson and Constantine have close ties with the agency, which handles News International’s media business and Watson also dealt closely with Carat when he was general manager of Currant-Bun.com. Talkcast is believed to be looking to spend up to £20 million on marketing its service.
The start-up, which is planning to offer consumers a range of content across different delivery systems such as the net, mobile phones and TV, is close to launching the first of a number of online ventures.
Talkcast is also expected to confirm a number of different consumer brands as partners in the venture and is also expected to appoint a creative agency. Recently launched football web pools game Score, which has the backing of the FA Premier League, is believed to be one of Talkcast’s partners.
A team of media, internet and telecoms heavyweights make up the core personnel of Talkcast, including former managing director of Demon Internet Roy Bliss and ex-managing director of Sega Europe Frank Herman.
No one from Carat or Talkcast was available for comment.
