RBI seeks staff for online push

Reed Business Information is set to recruit more than 20 sales staff to work exclusively on its online products.

Director of RBI recruitment Paul Sissons said staff were needed primarily for recruitment website totaljobs.com, which was relaunched recently.

The new recruits will boost RBI’s current team of 153 recruitment sales staff, who work on both print and online products, and give totaljobs.com a dedicated sales team for the first time.

Sissons said RBI hoped to develop totaljobs.com into the “best online recruitment player”.

“Obviously we have major ambitions for totaljobs. We are recruiting for specific market zones so we can sell customers online solutions in vertical markets,” he said.

Totaljobs currently draws advertising from the recruitment sections of RBI’s industry-specific hard-copy titles, such as Caterer & Hotelkeeper, Computer Weekly, Asian Chemical News and Hospital Doctor, but RBI aims to eventually establish it as a self-supporting site. It covers 11 different sectors and also offers links to related industry sites.

Sissons said it was difficult to recruit good and experienced online staff and RBI was willing to pay extra for the right staff. “We appreciate that people with online experience are at a premium,” he said.

In addition to totaljobs.com, RBI’s online titles include computerweekly.co.uk, electronicweeky-co.uk, whattobuyforbusiness.co.uk, motortrader.co.uk and the recently launched caterer.com.

In September RBI signed a deal with Microsoft linking totaljobs to the internet giant as preferred recruitment site on the MSN recruitment channel.
