Bauer lures Clare Chamberlain from Immediate Media

Bauer Media has appointed Immediate Media's Clare Chamberlain to lead its 100-strong ad team as sales director across the publisher's print and digital operations.

Chamberlain, who has spent the last five years at Immediate Media, which was borne out of the sale of BBC Magazines in October, will be responsible for the commercial opportunities across Bauer’s London Lifestyle magazine brands , including Grazia, Closer, Empire and Yours.

Reporting to Abby Carvosso, managing director of Bauer’s Lifestyle & Advertising, the former group advertising director of Immediate Media, joins at a crucial time as Bauer, along with the wider magazine fraternity, battles to stem swathes of falling copy sales and maintain relevance to cash-strapped advertisers.

The magazine publisher is expected to make significant investments into some of its core brands this year, by developing core print products and their digital brand extensions.

In addition to Chamberlain’s appointment, Lauren Holleyoake has also been promoted to publishing manager of Grazia and More. Holleyoake will be focused on driving new commercial opportunities and developing innovations for Bauer’s two flagship weekly glossies.

Previously marketing manager of the titles, Holleyoake was named 'marketer of the year' at Bauer's own awards last year, and starts her new role in February.

Carvosso said: "Clare’s incredible energy, passion and enthusiasm will be vital to lead our unique and talented sales team as we continue to develop innovative commercial partnerships and ensure we keep on creating the UK’s most influential and trusted brands."

She added: "Lauren will play a vital part in ensuring that we continue to create the most influential and market-leading weekly glossies, especially with the exciting and innovative plans Grazia and More have in store for 2012."

Before joining BBC Magazines, Chamberlain was commercial director across the women’s titles  at Hachette, a portfolio that included Elle and Red.

At Immediate Media she worked across a diverse portfolio, including the homes, food, youth and children’s titles, as well as the leading automotive brand, Top Gear.

The arrival of Chamberlain and Holleyoake indicates a bid to strengthen its editorial operations, and follows Bauer’s re-appointment of former Heat editor-in-chief turned Time Out editor, Mark Frith, in November.

Chamberlain’s role at Bauer comes in the same week Immediate Media announced plans to acquire You & Your Wedding and Prima Baby & Pregancy from Hearst Magazines.
