Culture secretary Jeremy Hunt is gearing-up to clear the way for Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation to acquire the 61% of BSkyB it does not already own, and in a single stroke create the biggest advertising powerhouse in the UK.

Based on ad spend figures in 2010, as tracked by Nielsen, if the merger is successful Murdoch stands to become chairman of the largest advertising group in the UK, ahead of FMCG giants Procter & Gamble and Unilever.
