Asda takes the lion's share of space in the papers, with its price-comparison promise in a full-page spread in all the national papers. It is also featuring Christmas products including hams, veggies, starters and desserts, in various papers.

Morrisons highlights its Christmas hams, with full-page ads in the Daily Mirror, The Sun and the Daily Mail, as well as producing smaller ads for stock-up items.

Sainsbury’s places full-page ads to announce the winner of its Christmas contest in The Sun and the Daily Mail. The grocer also advertises a Christmas dinner spread in those two papers.

Tesco features a range of turkey alternatives: salmon, pork loin and beef joint, with ads in the Daily Express, The Independent, the Daily Mail and The Times.

AgeUK, the charity for the elderly, has a "Spread the warmth" supplement in the Daily Mirror, where online retailer Littlewoods is also running a Christmas giveaway.

Sky1 and the British Heart Foundation are advertising for Victoria Wood's 'The Angina Monologues', a comedy fundraiser for heart disease, airing on Sky 1 tonight and Christmas Day.

Curry’s advertises a range high-tech gift ideas in The independent and The Times, while it pitches the Samsung Galaxy Tab in The Sun.

Ikea pitches its gift cards as a great holiday gift idea in The Sun and the Daily Mail.

National Rail suggests rail cards as a gift idea, with ads in The Guardian, the Daily Mail and The Times.
