In an aggressive move, Waitrose pushes the message that many of its products are the same price as Tesco, as part of its "price-match" campaign across the national press.

Meanwhile, Morrisons offers half-price chocolates and reduced-price beer, and Lidl offers savings to Daily Express readers as it relaunches its OK! magazine cross-promotion, including a £1 off voucher in the paper.

Sainsbury’s Finance offers customers a reduced rate on borrowing up to £5,000 with an ad in The Daily Mirror, while Credit Expert directs those "having trouble getting credit" to its website for a free 30-day trial.

Tea brand Typhoo joins the Coronation Street celebrations for the programme's fiftieth anniversary, offering shoppers the chance to win "a day on set with the stars" through promotions on special boxes of teabags.
