M&S highlights its "scuff-resistant" shoes as part of its school uniform range, with ads across the press. Asda advertises stationery offers, ensuring students are well-stocked with paper and pens as they return to school.

Ads for 'Avatar' run across the papers, as the Fox film relaunches in cinemas for a "special edition" cut, complete with extra unseen footage, and Stallone action flick, 'The Expendables' is also advertised by Lionsgate.

Meanwhile, Momentum’s 'The Girl Who Played With Fire' is highlighted ahead of its cinema release today. The film is highly anticipated after being born from the successful book of the same name.

McDonalds advertises its limited edition ice cream deserts, while Boots offers 20% off all photo printing, hoping to target families returning from summer holidays.

For those not fortunate enough to be taking a break this weekend, Lidl brings a taste of Germany to homes, offering discounts on "German specialities" including pretzels, bockwurst and beer.

While retailers hope their bank holiday sales will still attract shoppers despite the forecasted rain, continuing with campaigns launched yesterday, and Tesco encourages weekend celebrations offering half-price Lanson champagne.
