The unveiling of VW's app has been timed to coincide with today's European launch of Apple's iPad.
The free-to-download app, which will be available to UK and mainland European consumers when it launches imminently, will be published quarterly in five languages.
VW will also publish an internet version of DAS from the end of June.
Luca de Meo, VW's head of marketing for its passenger car brands, said: "DAS is an important building block in Volkswagen's digital marketing strategy and gives us the opportunity for an interactive dialogue with our customers.
"Our goal is to transmit the fascination of the brand and its products in a new digital dimension, creating a global experience."
