John Menzies Digital folds

LONDON - John Menzies Digital, the outfit behind magazine download service, Magazinesondemand.co.uk, has folded.

John Menzies Digital folds

In an e-mail to publishers leaked to Media Week, Ellis Watson, chief executive of Menzies Distribution, said the company "was looking down the line of too much future investment for too much uncertainty", so had to pull the plug on the business due to the worst time the "world's consumer economy has seen".

The closure puts an end to the Magazinesondemand.co.uk service, which allowed customers to download more than 100 digital versions of leading magazines to their desktops including Top Gear, Maxim, Red, Total Film and Grazia.

It will also end John Menzies Digital's established white-label partnerships with WHSmith and Asda, as well as its contract with DBD Media, which it appointed in March to handle its pay-per-click account.
