Restructure creates new roles at Evening Standard

LONDON - Associated Newspapers has further restructured its sales operations and set up a stand-alone display sales unit for the London Evening Standard, a move first revealed by Media Week last year.

The unit will be led by former Mail on Sunday advertising director Simon Davies, who became ad director of The Evening Standard and London Lite in October.

The group’s sales unit previously sold across the evening paid-for title and its sister free paper, London Lite.

The move will prompt the creation of eight new roles at the London Evening Standard, particularly in the area of client sales, where there will be two senior appointments.

The change will see the London Lite’s display advertising unit become part of Associated’s free newspaper division, which also houses its free morning sheet, Metro.

The London Lite will have a stand-alone trading team with its planning operations being integrated into the Metro’s display sales team.

As part of the restructure, assistant managing director of Associated’s free newspaper division Karen Wall, will take on the role of chief operating officer for London Lite.

Andrew Mullins, managing director of the Evening Standard, said: "The Evening Standard now needs a structure that is more closely aligned to targeting its very influential and up-market audience, and it is on the clients and agencies that target these consumers where our energy and creativity will be even more focused as a result of this change."
